If you have read Why Felicity’s Garden?, then you know why we also chose to grow organically. We want our home to be a safe place for children and adults alike to wander and feel free to pick and graze as they wander about the farm.
The concept also goes further out into the country and the world. It is a principle of caring for the earth and putting back more than we take out. Hopefully leaving the world a better place for future generations. As such, we aim to feed the soil, not the plant. By building up a healthier soil with composts and mulches and organic fertilisers, we are using a lot of products that could otherwise be termed waste, and at the same time encouraging the soil to be better able to support healthy plants and become a home for beneficial organisms.
We chose to certify with National Association for Sustainable Agriculture in Australia, N.A.S.A.A.
The association sets down the guide- lines to follow to be accredited as organic. They also act as an information base, a contact point for discussion and learning.
With any business it is imperative to be able to discuss issues with like-minded people. A directory assists with locating other businesses that are compatible to the organic principles.
